UEFA Champions League Action

The Semi-finals of the UEFA Champions league started off yesterday with a 2-0 win by Manchester United of England over Schalke of Germany.  Manchester United were by far the more dominant side in this match.  They controlled most of the possession during the game and just seemed like the strong club.  Schalke’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, was called into action frequently; he seemed to be the other thing standing in United’s way of being up 3-0 in the first half.

The smaller Germany club was only able to keep the game level for about half of the second period.  Ryan Giggs opened up the scoring in the 67th minute and was shortly followed by a goal by Wayne Rooney in the 69th.  This put Manchester United in to a dominant position with only 20min left in the match.

The second leg of this semi-final is scheduled for May 4th at Old Trafford, Manchester.  Schalke will have to put on a brilliant display if they open to advance to the finals.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to play later today the second semi-final match.  The teams are all too familiar with one another.  They just played for the Copa del Rey, where Real Madrid claimed the title.  This is a much anticipated semi-final match up between two very talented Spanish sides.  Stars like Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid and Lionel Messi for Barcelona should shine bright in these next two matches.
